If we all take steps together-- in our homes and neighborhoods and at the State capitol-- we can tackle global warming.  By making smarter energy and transportation choices, we can save money, create jobs, reduce air and water pollution and improve the health of our families.  Let's work together as voters, community leaders, businesses and families.  Let's make Washington State a COOL state!

Youth Unite for Climate Action

This past weekend youth from across the Pacific Northwest united in Seattle to continue planning, learning and networking to bring about a clean energy future.  More than 20 colleges and highschools and over 100 students represented.  The summit, called Re-Energize the Northwest, was sponsored by the Sierra Club and the Sierra Student Coalition and organized with help from the Cascade Climate Network, the regional youth climate network that has been steadily growing since its inception just over a year ago.

Transportation Solutions

Want to learn more about Smart Transportation?  E-mail JP at JP.Kemmick@sierraclub.org to arrange a Smart Transportation presentation from one of our excellent volunteers.

Transportation in Washington state is a big deal as our vehicles are the major cause of our green house gas emissions.  Click here to read more about what the Sierra Club looks for in a good transit plan and how you can get out of your car and into alternative transportation.

Volunteer Spotlight

Anastasia Schemkes

Cool State Intern

My main project for the summer is helping put together a presentation about the transformation of transportation services Seattle needs to see in the near and distant future. With all the work I do for the Cool State Campaign, I hope to inspire the public of the greater Seattle area to want more mass transit services and safer streets for biking and walking, because everyone's support makes change possible!
